Metal Working 204 - Advanced Turning and Boring Techniques, Steady and Follower Rests

Recommended prerequisite - MW-201 Basic Engine lathe or some metal lathe experience

MW-204 - This part is a series of courses to help you understand how to get the most out of your Metal Lathe. This course is about the use of Steady and follower rests for various operations on the lathe. If you want to learn how to turn a long slender shaft, or machine the inside of a tube for a cylinder, then this course will help you.  After this course, you will have much more insight into the capabilities of a lathe.

  • ·         Demonstrate proper set up and use of the Steady Rest
  • ·         Demonstrate proper use and set up follower rest
  • ·         Tool selection for boring, grooving and internal threading
  • ·         Measurement of internal surfaces.
  • ·         Considerations for Internal Threading

The course is 3 hours

Prerequisites: MW-201 Introduction to the Metal Lathe recommended

PPE:   Approved eye protection (Safety Glasses)

          Closed toed Footwear

          No loose clothing (Watches/rings need to be removed)

          Long hair must be secured
