Metal Working 205 - Tapers, Radius and Knurling

This is a build on the MW Series of courses on using a Metal Lathe.  This course will demonstrate various methods of generating Tapers using tailstock offset, Compound slide, and form tools. Tips and Techniques for Knurling, and a demonstration on turning spheres (balls) of a standard lathe.

·         Calculating Tapers

·         Demonstrate using Tail Stock Offset

·         Demonstrate using the Compound Slide

·         Using Form tools

·         Demonstrate Knurling tools & Techniques

·         Demonstrate Radius (Ball) Turning

The demonstrations in this course will be done on the Makerspace Lathe, which members are allowed to use after proper training (MW-201 course).

Prerequisites: MW-201 Introduction to the Metal Lathe recommended or machining experience

PPE:  Approved eye protection (Safety Glasses)

        Closed toed Footwear

        No loose clothing (Watches/rings need to be removed)

        Long hair must be secured
