**New** Woodshop 101 Certification ~ Make a Child's Sleigh as the Class Project!

  • Familiarize yourself with the Wood Shop and its resources
  • Introduce yourself to the machines and power tools that you are most likely to use
  • Demonstrate how to use those machines and power tools safely
  • Get hands-on experience safely operating the machines and power tools
  • Shown the location of the E STOP, first aid kit, eye wash station, fire extinguisher and emergency exits
  • This course is required in order to obtain access to the Industrial Room equipment and to do future woodworking workshops
  • This workshop is led by retired cabinet maker and wood craftsperson, Ed Campbell.

This course allows participants to build a simple but classic style of sled that's suitable for a range of ages. It can be used to tow the little ones in the snow or the backrest can be removed for forward face riding down the slopes. It also serves well as a gift or window display.

We use re-cycled cross country skis, and the body of the sled is 2x4 material with 1x4 cross bracing. A variety of hardwoods are used on the slats and the backrest is 1/2" plywood. All the materials are supplied except the paint or varnish (which is to be done separately from this class).

  • The fee is $215 for ages 16 and up. All materials are supplied except the paint & varnish.

Saturday, December 4 from 9:00am - 3:00pm at the Shuswap Makerspace in the Innovation Centre (downstairs) 220 Shuswap St. NE (The big colourful building downtown).
