
Introduction to the Metal Lathe
This introductory metal lathe 101 certification course is designed for home hobbyists, technicians, or persons doing small repair work. If you have always wanted to learn to make your own parts on a metal lathe, this course is a good start! If you are thinking of getting a lathe or already have a lathe, but need some guidance, this course will teach you proper use, help familiarize use with the related terminology, and give you a better understanding of the metal lathe's capabilities.
Introduction to the Metal Lathe will include, but is not limited to:
- Shop safety


- Lathe basics
- Cutting tools and techniques
- Cutting speeds and feeds
This course will be a prerequisite for other metal lathe courses and is the certification course for unsupervised use of the lathe in the Shuswap Makerspace. Please wear closed-toe shoes, have hair tied back, and avoid loose clothing and jewelry.
The course has 3 modules: Intro to metal lathe, Basic Drilling and tapping, basic threading, and other operations.
Instructor: Pat Shea. The cost is $225 for ages 16 & up.
3 Tuesdays in June: June 11th, 18th, and 25th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at the Shuswap Makerspace in the Innovation Centre 220 Shuswap St. NE (basement).
